THE EFFECT OF INVENTORY MANAGEMENT ON THE OPERATIONS OF A PUBLIC HEALTH FACILITY: A CASE OF ADA EAST DISTRICT HOSPITAL

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the impact of inventory management on the operations of a Public Health facility. The research was carried out at Ada East District Hospital with the aim of evaluating the impact of inventory management on the operations of a public health facility. The main aim of the research was to find out how to maintain inventory at optimum level, so that it meets the requirement of the organization. However, the organization has just a small storage facility. Questionnaire was designed using structured questions to collect primary data from the staffs of Supply Chain Management Unit in the Hospital. Questionnaire was used in the collection of data from the respondents. The questionnaires were of closedended and opened-ended questions coupled with nominal, ordinal and interval data respectively. The research data gathered by the team from the primary source will be edited and coded using data analysis software such as the SPSS version 16.0, Excel etc. The research result shows that inventory has effect on the organization by emulating good stock keeping and codifying items in the medical stores, but should be improve on it. In view of this the researchers recommend that the organization should manage its inventory well in order to achieve its overall service objective.
