The study seeks to reveal the factors that constitute good office environment (furniture, lighting,
temperature, noise, layout and color), the effect of these environmental factors on employees’
performance and ways of managing the office environment. The research was designed using both
qualitative and quantitative method. The researcher adopted judgmental sampling technique to
acquire a sample size of 70 from a population of 83. The main data collection instrument used was
questionnaires which included both close and open ended questions. The data processing tool used
was Statistical Packages for Social Science v20.0 (SPSS).
From the research conducted, it was discovered that, suitable furniture, adequate temperature,
sufficient lighting, less noise, appropriate layout and color makes up a good office environment
which enhance the performance level of employees. It was also revealed that the office
environment can be managed through several ways such as choosing color for a building by
considering it psychological effect on employees. In view of the findings, it was recommended
that management must provide other factors that constitute good office environment such as
drinking water and washing facilities. It was further recommended that management must ensure
appropriate office environment to promote the comfort of employees which will result to increased
performance.
In conclusion, management again was recommended to constantly change certain facilities of the
office environment that needs replacement and repair any faulty entity that can affect comfort of
employee |
