This study is to examine the effect of green procurement practices and procedures in the mining
industry in Newmont Ghana Limited. The study used three specific objectives; examine the
relationship between green procurement practices and mining operations in Newmont Ghana
Ltd, analyze the environmental, social, and economic effects of green procurement within the
operations of Newmont Ghana Ltd and to evaluate the challenges encountered in integrating
green procurement practices in the mining operations of Newmont Ghana Ltd. The study used
quantitative research approach to adopt the study by examining the sample of a population. The
targeted population for the study were senior and junior management staff in Newmont Ghana
Limited. The researchers targeted a population of 100. Using the Yamane formular to calculate
a population of 100 to find the sample size, therefore the sample size used for the study was
80. The researchers used questionnaires as their main instrument for the study. The study was
analysis by the use of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSSv20.0) with frequencies
and tables. The study revealed that, integrating green procurement into mining operations
represents a crucial step towards more sustainable and responsible mining practices. The also
revealed that, green procurement often involves selecting suppliers and technologies that
produce fewer emissions and pollutants. The study concluded that, green procurement practices
have demonstrated a positive impact on environmental sustainability. The study recommended
that, mining companies should develop and implement clear, comprehensive policies that
outline environmental objectives, procurement criteria, and performance standards. |
