Abstract:
The study sought to advocate for the adoption of a systematic model in Polytechnic Libraries in
Ghana. The study covered all the ten (10) Polytechnic Libraries in Ghana with a population of
one hundred and forty-four (144) staff as at the time the study was conducted. Out of one
hundred and forty-four (144) copies of questionnaire distributed, one hundred and ten (110)
copies were retrieved indicating a none response of thirty four (34). All Head Librarians were
also interviewed. The mixed method approach was used to solicit data for the study. The study
found out that none of the Polytechnic Libraries use a model. Also it came to light that many
factors caused performance gaps but lack of training leads. In addition, the study confirmed
that, there is the need for interventions such as training and development to eliminate the
performance gaps and there are challenges in achieving expected performance. The study
advocates the adoption of a model to help improve performance of library personnel in Ghana.
